Creating Killer Content
Master these 3 essential skills
Creating killer content is critical in today’s digital world.
With so much competition online, creating content can feel like a daunting task. But by mastering three essential skills, you can significantly improve the quality of your content and make it irresistible to your audience.
These skills are storytelling, presentation of ideas and persuasive writing.
Regardless of whether you are a seasoned content creator or just starting out, mastering these skills will help you create content that captives and engages your audience.
Let’s dive in.
Storytelling
Honestly, this is one that I continue to work on. Coming from a background in higher education, I have a tendency to merely present the facts and not necessarily create that emotional connection that grabs my audience.
I continue to read, listen and learn about this topic as much as possible. I’m working on building a habit of writing a short story each day just to continue to improve my process. I also try to recognize small interactions and observations throughout each day that can be used as a story.
Storytelling is a powerful tool in content creation.
Some of the benefits of storytelling include:
Catching the reader’s attention - Storytelling is an effective way to grab and keep the audience’s attention. Stories are more engaging than just presenting data and facts and make the reader more invested in what you have to say.
Creating an emotional connection - Stories can evoke emotions and connect with your audience on a personal level. They make you and your content more relatable. By creating relatable stories, characters or situations, your audience will feel more connected which can increase the impact of your content.
Making your content more memorable - Stories are easier to remember than facts or figures. Using storytelling can make your content and the information you share more memorable and increase the chances that your audience will recall it later.
Providing your audience an opportunity to get to know you better - Storytelling offers endless opportunities to insert creativity and originality into your content. Using stories you can bring a unique perspective to and experience with your topic. This allows your audience to get to know and understand you better and makes your content stand out from your competitors.
Incorporating storytelling in your content can make it more engaging, memorable and relatable resulting in more effective communication and connection with your audience.
Presentation of ideas
How you present your ideas and information in your content creates a better connection to your audience and increases the likelihood of engagement.
Here are some tips for effectively presenting ideas when creating your content:
Start with a strong hook - Use an interesting story, fact or question to start your content. You want to capture your audience’s attention and entice them to continue reading or listening to your content.
Use clear and concise language - Keep your content simple and easy to understand. Avoid using jargon, technical terms or complex language that may confuse your audience. If you blog, be sure to be concise with what you’re saying. Your audience may not correctly interpret your tone or the intention of what you’re trying to say if you aren’t clear and literal in what you write.
Organize your thoughts logically - Organize your content so that it flows logically and each concept builds upon the previous one. Use headings, subheadings, bullets, etc. to make your content easy to digest.
Use visuals - Incorporate images, infographics, charts, etc. to support your content visually. This doesn’t just apply to blogs. If you create videos for your content, overlay slides or infographics within your video to simplify the content and keep your audience engaged.
Support your content with data - Use data, research or real-life examples to support your content. This helps your audience understand your perspective and promotes you as an authority in your niche.
Address objections if appropriate - Anticipate any objections or counterarguments your audience may have and address them. This demonstrates that you have explored your topic thoroughly and inspires trust.
End with a clear call to action - Tell your audience what you want them to do next. This could be purchasing your offer/product, signing up for your email list, following you on social, etc.
By following these tips, your content will flow in a logical and orderly fashion for your audience.
Persuasive writing
Persuasive writing is most commonly associated with sales pages when it comes to your online marketing strategy.
However, it’s a valuable skill that can be applied to various types of content, from blog posts to product descriptions.
Some of the advantages of using persuasive writing in your content include:
Influencing your audience
Building credibility and authority as a leader in your niche
Standing out amongst your competitors
Increasing engagement with your audience
Driving conversations about your topic
Using persuasive writing effectively in your content goes beyond your sales page and can be incorporated throughout your content and copy.
Mastering these three skills can make a huge difference in the quality and effectiveness of your content. Storytelling helps you create a compelling narrative and keeps your audience engaged on an emotional level. Presenting your ideas effectively enables your to convey your ideas and messages clearly and effectively. Using persuasive writing influences your audience and helps establish you as an expert in your niche.
By incorporating these skills into your content creation process, you can create killer content that captures your audience's attention, drives engagement and ultimately increases your sales.
Keep practicing and experimenting with these skills and don’t be afraid to try new things to take your content to the next level.
